Porsche Showcases Hybrid Technology in NYC

The name Porsche has been associated with pioneering innovations in automotive engineering since the beginning of the last century when Ferdinand Porsche founded his iconic car company in 1900.
The present-day Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG, in Stuttgart, Germany, has always pushed automotive technology into unchartered territory. Porsche latest push, hybrid technology, was featured at a reception at The Altman Building in Manhattan, Tuesday (Apr. 19) leading up to the New York Auto Show.
Porsche President and CEO, Detlev von Platen, Porsche Museum Curator, Akim Stajskal, and Porsche Panamera expert Dr. Stefan Utsch were all on hand to detail the latest technology.
Porsche designed the first functional, full-hybrid car in the world, the “Semper Vivus” (“always alive”) more than a century ago.
In a four year project, the Porsche Museum in Stuttgart recreated the Semper Vivus, 111 years after Ferdinand Porsche introduced the car. It was introduced at the Geneva Motor Show 2011 and has been brought to New York for the auto show.
The Lohner-Porsche “Semper Vivus” is a stark contrast from Porsche’s newest hybrid, the four-door Panamera S Hybrid, but they have one idea in common: Porsche Intelligent Performance.
The car will be introduced in the United States this year, and will carry a base price of $95,000.
The event also featured a Porsche 911 hybrid race car that will go uj against other hybrids. More than one million names of Facebook fans appear on the car.
The new Porsche Cayenne hybrid was also on display. The gas and electric SUV was introduced last year.
